Osteria Lupa Romana
170 Thompson Street
212.982.5089

I went down to Lupa on Thursday evening for the second time and I am confident there will be a third time. In fact, I wish it were in my neighborhood because I would be a regular.
I enjoy Lupa for its cozy, unpretentious and rustic ambience as well as the many delicious Roman dishes it offers. I must say I like the fact that the music softly playing in the background is normally something like “Hotel California” or “Brandy”.
Lupa offers overs over 400 wines and liqueurs from almost any region in Italy, but there is no reason to be overwhelmed just ask your friendly server for a recommendation. The wines I tried were the Friulano “Adriatico” 2009 (white) and the Cannonau di Sardengna Riserva 2006 (red) and if you want to try a popular Italian bitter liqueur try an Averna on the rocks.
I recommend starting with a few small plates (Tuna & Cannellini, Broccoli Rabe with Ricotta, Proscuitto de Parma) to share before you indulge in a pasta dish (Pork Ragu). Oh, and be sure to leave room for the not to be missed “ Lupa Tartufo” for dessert. I am confident you will thank me.
I just read that Lupa offers a Roman style lunch. Any one up for a week day lunch?
Just be sure to tell your boss you won’t be coming back to the office.
Tips:
Lupa changes its menu frequently.
Be sure to make a reservation.
