A day in Williamsburg

Yesterday I took the L train over to Williamsburg to do a little exploring with my friend Dina.

Our first stop was Beacon’s closet a shop that buys, sells & trades used clothing & accessories. We each dropped off a bag of clothes to see if we could sell some of our old clothes. Why not make a few extra $$ in this economy but not much luck -- I received $5.23 for an old gap vest which I bought 15 years ago for $9.99 --not so bad. As for the rest of my stuff and Dina’s they weren’t interested. My advice is stick with donating to charity.

While strolling in and out of boutiques which I thought were a bit pricey we saw a yellow ice cream truck Van Leeuwen and decided a small cup of organic, pure & simple ice cream had our name on it. A scoop of vanilla and pistachio was a nice afternoon treat.

At around 5pm we stopped at “The Bedford” for a glass of rose. We sat outside and watched many hip youngsters both walking and skateboarding by us.

I saved the best part of the trip for last. I recently had dinner with friends a few weeks back at Dressler and wanted to go back again because it was that good. Not only did I enjoy the food and company but had admired the decor not knowing the ironwork was done by the Brooklyn Navy Yard artisan sculptors.

It is worth crossing the water and heading over to Dressler for an enjoyable evening. Your taste buds will be very happy you made the trip. If you go be sure to try the crispy artichokes with parmesan and fresh ricotta -- who would have thought to pair those together or the heirloom tomato & watermelon salad with ricotta salata and olive tapenade -- a symphony in your mouth.

I will be back again!
